Show and Tell #2: Iris Folding Art - Heart Shape

Ain't it adorable? Iris folding sure is making a hit on craft projects. And I am starting to get hooked! What's Iris folding, you ask? According to my trusty friend, Google:

Iris folding is a paper craft technique that involves folding strips of colored paper in such a way to form a design. The center of the design forms an iris — a shape reminiscent of the iris diaphragm of a camera lens.

I was supposed to use this for my Explosion Box project, but decided to use a different image to decorate the lid. It would also make for a perfect card front, but again, I forgot to put it into use. Haha. 

So, basically, you just need a paper iris folding template. There are LOADS of templates available on the net for free, simply by doing a Google search: iris folding templates. You should find one in the traditional circle and square, and more fun and bizarre shapes such as this I made, a heart, and guitars, and so many other shapes.

This one I got from Paper Printables. The reason why I got it from that site is because the template is color coded, so you know which colors to use on a certain number or side if you decide on using more than one color. As you can see on mine, I used three different colored papers from Melstampz which I printed out.

I then cut the papers into 2 inch wide strips. The length will depend on how big your template is. Just make sure you cut them to a length longer than the template, enough to cover the "hole" you will make. For more detailed instructions, you can go to this video to watch a tutorial.
